How to Apply Edible Lustre Dust:

  1. Prepare the surface: The surface of the food item should be clean and dry before applying edible lustre dust. For example, if you are applying lustre dust to a cake, make sure the icing is smooth and dry.
  2. Choose the colour and application method: Select the colour and finish of the lustre dust you want to use. You can mix different colours to create a custom shade.
  3. Apply the lustre dust: There are different ways to apply lustre dust, depending on the type of food item and the effect you want to achieve. Here are a few common methods:
  • Brushing: Dip a soft food safe brush into the lustre dust and gently apply it to the surface of the food item. You can apply it lightly for a subtle effect or more heavily for a dramatic look.
  • Painting: Mix the lustre dust with a few drops of either More Spirit* or Color Flow** to create a paint-like consistency. Use one drop at a time until you achieve your desired consistency. Use a food-safe brush to paint the mixture onto the food item.
  • Spraying: Use a food-safe airbrush to spray the lustre dust onto the food item by firstly combining the lustre dust with a few drops of either More Spirit* or Color Flow**. This method gives a more even coverage and is often used for large items like cakes.

  4. Allow to dry: Let the lustre dust dry completely before handling or serving the food item.

TIP: A little lustre dust goes a long way.

*More Spirit is a strawberry-scented cake decorating spirit that is perfect for mixing with petal dusts and lustres. It is not for drinking consumption and tastes quite unpleasant on purpose to discourage you from drinking it. Don’t worry, it won’t effect the flavour of your yummy creation! More Spirit comes in a convenient dropper bottle that allows you to control what you dispense. More Spirit is another product in our Monica Cavallari Moreish range. It is produced, made, and bottled in Australia, contains no allergens, and is vegan-friendly.
