Cake Crumbs with Jane Cilia from Jane's Cakes And More

Posted by Nicole Tait on 22nd Jul 2024

At Edible Image Supplies, we love to feature sweet creators, whether they're hobby bakers or running a business. This month, we’re excited to introduce Jane Cilia from Jane's Cakes and More (Facebook). Jane's journey into cake decorating began with a desire to create memorable cakes for her children. Nine years on, Jane has crafted numerous special occasion cakes, turning her hobby into a beautiful tradition for her family.

1. What inspired you to start cake decorating as a hobby, and how long have you been practicing this craft?

I started making cakes when my daughter Ella was born. I wanted to start creating cakes for her to remember. She is now 9 and I have 2 other children who are 7 and 3 and I have made all of their special occasion cakes.

2. Could you share some of your favourite cake decorating techniques or styles?

I love piping cupcakes with different piping tips and finishing them off with sprinkles.

.

3. When did you realise you needed an edible ink printer in your life?

Now that I have an edible image printer, I use it very often and I love it!

4. Can you share some of your pro tips for printing and applying edible images effectively?

I like to print the day before I need to use the image; and if the image is sticking to the sheet due to humidity I pop it in the freezer for 1 minute and peel the image off easily.

5. What are some of the most challenging aspects of cake decorating that you've encountered, and how do you overcome them?

Cleaning the mess, I hate the greasy buttercream mess.

6. Do you have any tips or advice for beginners who are interested in getting started with cake decorating as a hobby?

Do it! It is so rewarding and so much fun!

7. Are there any other EIS products that you love using?

The EIS inks are amazing, I was given a different brand and tried to use them but the colour was running and not clear.

8. Can you share some of your proudest cake moments with us?

Our family's participation in this year's Hawkesbury Show was an incredible experience. Seeing Ella, Sienna, and little Jason pour their creativity into their entries made me so proud. My daughters and I were also very lucky to do a cupcake demonstration with Joanna from Better Homes and Gardens at the show.
