Cake Crumbs with Lianna Speers from LCS Creative

Posted by Nicole Tait on 11th Aug 2025

For Lianna Speers of LCS Creative, cookies are so much more than a sweet treat; they’re her sanctuary. Between managing a fast-paced career, raising her son, and balancing everyday life, Lianna found her perfect escape in the art of cookie making. What began as a fun project for her son’s third birthday has blossomed into a thriving creative venture, where each batch offers her a chance to slow down, embrace artistic freedom, and pour love into every detail. In her kitchen, the world quiets, the stress melts away, and the only thing that matters is crafting cookies that are as beautiful as they are delicious.

1. Can you tell us how your sweets business or journey began?

It all started with my son’s 3rd birthday. I decided to make Spiderman-themed sugar cookies for the party, and to my surprise, they were a hit! Not just with the kids, but with the parents too. One by one, they started asking, “Who made these?” When I told them I did, a few said, “You could totally sell these!”

That planted a seed. I started researching the local market and realised there wasn’t much competition when it came to custom sugar cookies in our town. That’s when the idea really took off.

From the beginning, I knew I wanted to do things differently; create cookies that weren’t just beautiful and delicious, but also accessible. My goal was simple: make custom sugar cookies affordable for everyone, without compromising quality, while still running a sustainable, profitable business.

2. What has starting and running your own business meant to you personally?

I’ve always been a creative soul at heart. With a degree in journalism, creative writing, and public relations, I’ve built a full-time career as a Promotions Manager at a radio station, a job I truly enjoy. But like many working mums, life can get overwhelming. Between managing a fast-paced career, being a wife, and raising a little one, switching off isn’t always easy.

That’s where cookies come in.

Creating cookies is my creative escape. It’s the one time my mind goes quiet and I feel completely at peace. It’s my version of heaven. In those moments, I get to reset, embrace creative freedom, and pour love into something I’m genuinely passionate about.

3. You purchased a new edible ink printer not so long ago; what motivated this decision?

I’ve spent countless hours diving into the world of sugar cookies, following inspiring Instagram accounts, researching techniques, and exploring ways to create the perfect cookie while offering unique, customisable options for every customer.

When it came to expanding my skills, edible printing was something I was incredibly curious about. But with so many options out there, it took me months of research to truly understand what to look for in a reliable, high-quality edible printer.

I kept coming back to Edible Image Supplies. The name spoke for itself! A trusted, reputable brand that not only offered great products, but also the support and starter bundle I needed to confidently take the next step.

Eventually, I invested in the EIS A3 Edible Ink Wireless Printing System Package. It came with everything I needed to get started: edible ink, a packet of icing sheets, and a 3-month subscription to Icing Artist, which has been an incredible resource!

4. How was the setup process, and do you have any tips or hacks to make it smoother?

The setup process was quite seamless. Following the instruction manual made it easy to set up.

5. How has the addition of an edible ink printer positively impacted your business?

The addition of an edible ink printer has been a game-changer for my business. While themed cookies are always a hit, corporate logo cookies have quickly become a standout offering. It’s such a creative and delicious way for businesses to promote their brand. Not only do they look professional and eye-catching, but they also leave a sweet impression, literally!

6. Which creations are you most excited to print with your new edible ink printer?

Definitely business logos! There’s something so satisfying about seeing a brand come to life on a beautifully baked sugar cookie! It’s the perfect mix of professional and delicious. I can’t wait to see the reactions when clients see their logo edible and elevated!

 7. Have you surprised anyone with edible prints yet? Any memorable reactions?

Yes! One of the most memorable moments was when I surprised my co-workers at my full-time job with custom edible print cookies. Their reactions were priceless; they were blown away by the detail and creativity.

What made it even more special was that it led to something unexpected: they started asking me to create branded cookies for their clients. It was the perfect blend of both my worlds; combining my love for baking with my professional role. A total win-win!

8. Looking back, what advice would you give to someone who is keen to purchase an edible ink printer for the first time?

Absolutely do your research! Take the time to understand your needs and what’s out there. But just as important, trust the reputable brands. Edible printers are a significant investment, so it’s crucial to feel confident that you're getting quality, reliability, and the right support.

The good news? That investment truly pays for itself in the short term!

9. Self-care is crucial! How do you ensure you take care of yourself while running your business?

This is a tough one, because I’m definitely not someone who can sit still for long. I feel restless if I’m not doing something. Right now, self-care for me is actually found within the cookie-making process. I genuinely love the creativity that comes with designing beautiful cookies; it’s peaceful and rewarding.

That said, life can get overwhelming, and burnout does creep in sometimes. I work full-time Monday to Friday, then dedicate my weekends to cookies to prep for the following week’s orders. If the designs involve a lot of hand-painting or intricate details, it often spills into the evenings during the week too.

It’s a lot, but when you love what you’re doing, it somehow feels worth it. But, I am working on self-care ... slowly.

10. What career achievement are you most proud of, and why does it hold a special place in your heart?

Honestly, I think the biggest milestone has been having the courage to just start. I'm not quite at the one-year mark yet, but I still remember those early orders vividly; the nerves, the pressure, the fear of not being able to bring someone’s vision to life on a cookie. I used to worry, What if I can’t pull it off? How would I tell the customer?

But with each order, I've gained more confidence. Now, I genuinely look forward to the creative challenges customers throw my way. Recently, I had the chance to work on themes like Stitch, Ghost Spider, and Minecraft, and I was so excited to dive in and bring those designs to life.

It’s been such a rewarding journey, and with every order that comes through, I still have that moment of gratitude: someone chose me. They believe in what I do, and they’re supporting my small business. That feeling never gets old.
