Cake Crumbs Rewind: 2024 in Review

Posted by Nicole Tait on 22nd Jan 2025

This year, our Cake Crumbs blog series served up a delightful mix of creativity and inspiration from talented bakers and decorators who’ve mastered the art of edible printing. Their passion, perseverance, and imagination took edible designs to creative new heights! Let’s take a stroll back through 2024, celebrating these clever creators, and share some of their handy tips along the way.

Teresa Mariani from Sugar Theory PI

Teresa began her journey with the EIS A3 Printer System, overcoming the challenges of running a remote baking business by taking control of her edible image needs.

“Having my own edible ink printer gives me the confidence to take on these orders, knowing I can promptly deliver exactly what my clients envision.”

Tip: Teresa’s advice when buying an edible ink printer: “Buy the best you can afford; it will be paid back in your ability to offer a broader range to your customers. It elevates your orders.”

2. Tara Powell from Ra Ra’s Cookie Jar

Tara turned her love for cookie decorating into a business that has brought her joy and opened doors to new opportunities. Her use of edible images adds a personal touch to her stunning cookie sets.

“Edible images always add that super personal flair to a set. Be it as Polaroid cookies in a cute vintage set to coming up with a funky album cover for a record cookie. It really makes a set pop with real photos or art featured.”

Tip: Tara’s pro tip: “Allow your sheet to dry fully after printing. Sometimes, I will even sit the printed sheet on a tray in my dehydrator just to make sure the image is totally dry.”

3. Melissa Edworthy from Custom Cookies by Melissa

Melissa’s edible ink printer has expanded her product range and attracted corporate clients, adding a new layer of professionalism to her business.

“I really wanted to expand my product range and have a little point of difference, as well as being able to provide a more personalised cookie to corporate customers.”

TipMelissa loves working on custom logo designs and advises, “Make sure the glue is applied all the way to the edge to ensure the entire image sticks, but also not apply too much as it can make the image bleed.”

4. Jane Cilia from Jane’s Cakes and More

Jane’s journey began with a desire to create memorable cakes for her children, and her EIS Edible Printer has become a key part of her creative process.

“Now that I have an edible image printer, I use it very often and I love it!”

TipJane recommends, “If the image is sticking to the sheet due to humidity, I pop it in the freezer for 1 minute and peel the image off easily.”

.

5. Sue Limpus from Sue’s Sweet Obsession

Sue’s passion for sweets blossomed into a thriving business, and her EIS Edible Printerhas helped her reduce costs and increase creative freedom.

“Little did I know how much it would open up extra ways of being creative, and even the ability to supply other bakers with edible prints.”

Tip: Sue’s pro tip: “I always do a test print on normal paper first to make sure it’s all okay without ruining any edible image sheets.”

6. Lauren Jaehne from Life Is Sweet Edible Images

Lauren’s edible image business has allowed her to combine creativity with flexibility, creating fun, on-trend designs.

“This has been the best decision I have ever made, starting this business.”

Tip: “At the end of every printing session, I always put the cleaning cartridges in my printer and print a test page before shutting it down.”

7. Claudia Barbiere from Pretty Bites

Claudia’s addition of edible images to her cookie business has attracted major clients like Optus and Telstra, showcasing the power of personalisation.

“Edible images are an integral part of my business. Being able to offer printed edible logos on our cookies has opened up the largest range of new clients and significantly broadened our audience.”

TipClaudia’s application tip: “We spread a thin layer of edible glue over fondant with a wide brush and find this works best for us.”
